With the Curve — Stephens Life →
When I sat down to write this story my sophomore year in the cold library, I never expected it to be seen by more than my family members. I never expected for this story to make me an award-winning journalist, but it did.
I’ve struggled with scoliosis my entire life. I’ve had two surgeries for it, and I might need another one. My spine is my biggest insecurity as it makes the right of my rib cage stick out just a touch further than normal. I wrote this story for anyone with a disability to help them know they’re not alone.
When I was growing up, I didn’t have anyone outside of my family that had scoliosis. I felt like I was an outcast at school. This story takes a look at another young woman’s story with scoliosis, and how she’s not letting a little curve stop her from achieving her dreams.
